We do wonder if our monthly themes are simply excuses we came up for both of us to live our fantasies. Remember last year's Glee theme? lol. And this year, we just have to do Vampires and dream about how we would dress if we were vampires. Thank you lovelies for checking our posts and leaving really kind comments! Next month we will be playing with prints and patterns so stay tuned!

My vampire inspiration

When we talk about Vampire movies, the first I thought about is Interview with a vampire. This movie was shown 1994 and the huge selling point was the two handsome leads: Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. This was the first vampire movie that left a deep impression in me. However, the character that left me deep impression was not the two hunks but young Kirsten Dunst.

She looks very beautiful, just like a doll in the show. I especially love her ringlet hair and those big innocent eyes.

Who is that vampire that left an impression in your heart?

My twilight inspiration - Alice Cullen

My all time favorite character in The Twilight Saga must be Alice Cullen. Ever optimistic and kind, she cares a lot for the loved ones around her. She is also the most fashionable of all the characters in the movie series. Her style has changed slightly from Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I think the styling team has done an amazing job on her outfits, hair and makeup every time.

Alice Cullen in Twilight (2008)

Alice Cullen in The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)

Alice Cullen in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)

Alice Cullen in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I (2011)

My favorite look of Alice Cullen so far is the one in Breaking Dawn. I love pixie hair cut like this and I have been dreaming about cutting my hair so short for the longest time. Which is your favorite Alice Cullen look?

DIY Alice Cullen's choker necklace

Alice Cullen is often seen with this elegant choker necklace in Twilight Eclipse which inspired me to make one to complete my vampire inspired outfit. Here are what you need: a small brooch and half a metre of velvet ribbon.
This DIY is incredibly easy and quick to do. Once the materials are gathered, 'making' the choker necklace took less than a minute! I was really happy to find this quirky and cute owl brooch at Accessorize. I thought it was perfect as a centre piece for the choker necklace.

Two simple steps: 1) trim the ends of the ribbon and 2) pin on the brooch.

This pretty piece of accessory goes very well with classic black dresses with low neckline. I totally love how it adds a touch of elegance to an outfit. I'm keeping a lookout for cute brooches so that I can make myself more choker necklaces!

Dark Shadows Necklace

I love how Johnny Depp decided to keep the classic vampire look for Barnabas Collins. Almost all classic vampires have beautiful heirlooms with them and I have decided to "recreate" his ruby necklace.

Since I do not have a red ruby there are a few ways to do it. One is to get a fake ruby from craft stores or to create a fake red ruby with red paper. I have decided to use the 2nd method as I have all the materials at home.

This is a simple project. You need:
1) A necklace (I am using one I braided for another previous project)
2) A cameo base setting and clear epoxy resin stickers (I got them on etsy)
3) An ornament
4) A red paper
5) Hot glue gun
6) Sissors
7) Jump rings

 Step 1:
Cut the red paper such that it fits the cameo base setting.

 Step 2:
Stick the red paper to the cameo base setting.

Step 3:
Stick the ornament on the centre of the necklace.

Step 4:
Stick the clear epoxy resin sticker over the cameo base setting.

Last step:
Attach the cameo base setting onto the necklace with the jump rings.

Tah Dah! Your own ruby necklace!

Do I remind you of Barnabas Collins? :)

Dark eyed Volturi

I always like dark smoky eyes and feel that they can look both mysterious and sexy. Having dark smokey eyes of vampires gives it that extra mysterious feel.

Jane's look is quite an easy look to copy. Basically have very dark smoky eyes, rim both the top and bottom with dark shadow. To show some graduation, add some shimmery grey to the centre of the lids.  Complete the look with no blush, instead sculpt the cheeks with contouring powder. Then finish the lips with some brownish red lipstick.

Does my eyes look blood- thristy?

My vampire make up

So you saw what I would wear if I am a vampire and here's part II - the makeup! This is the look I designed, with gold on the lid and brown on the socket which diffuses to red. I used a lighter foundation to achieve the pale lifeless look. The face is sculpted with bronzer and a warm blusher.
The lips are given more colour in the centre to give the effect of blood stained lips. I should have use a stronger red, since the gradation of red on my lips isn't too visible in the photos.

I guess if I am a vampire, I still want to look like human, erm so that I can get closer to my human victims. lol!

One day as a vampire

Movies like Twilight and Underworld etc have made vampires so cool, I must admit that sometimes I can't help but to dream about how cool it is to be one too! Hah, I usually wake up from my day dream when I remember that vampires have to drink blood and that's really gross. Guess wearing vampire inspired outfits and make up this month will be the closest I can go to fulfilling my 'vampire dream'.
So IF I am a vampire, I wish I can be a really stylish one like Alice Cullen from Twilight. A large motivation for me to watch the show is because of her. I adore her vintage chic style and she's my outfit inspiration this month.

Dress: H&M
Velvet choker: DIY
Wedges: Novo

It's great that Ashley and I can do outfit shots together now that I'm back in Singapore. She suggested Singapore Arts Museum and I thought that it's a perfect place for our dark vampire theme.

Hey ladies, so IF you were a vampire, what would you wear?

Ashley Volturi

I am never a fan of horror shows but I love romance, so Twilight would be one of the rare vampire shows that I like (though I enjoyed the book much more than the movies). The love Bella and Edward had for each other is really touching.

Though Jane the Volturi had a very minor role in the show, I kind of like what she wears.

Jane is always dressed in velvet dress and cape with a V- shaped Volturi necklace. I gave it my twist and wore a sleeveless outfit (for it would be far too hot to wear long- sleeves in Singapore). I would rather brave my arms shining like diamonds than sweltering in the heat. I guess as a Volturi I would only come out on gloomy days.

Instead of having a traditional looking necklace, I have choosen a modern looking necklace that looks like an inverted- V. I kind of like the juxtaposition of the modern necklace against my vintage dress. This is an interesting necklace made my a local designer: Vice and Vanity. It is made from wood, leather and acrylic.

Velvet Dress with cutout lace detail: Vintage from Etsy
Sleeveless Parka with Hood: Local online store (thescarletroom.com)
Necklace: Vice and Vanity
Lace stockings: Gift from FT!
Pumps: Newlook

FT and I had choosen this location (the Singapore Arts Museum) due to it's old colonial look. We don't have any castles in Singapore and if any Volturi were to reside here, perhaps this beautiful colonial building might suit them quite a bit.

Does my outfit help me blend in with the Volturis?
