Beautiful Singapore at night

Here's a late Happy Birthday to Singapore from me! This post is going to be totally unrelated to fashion. I just want to share with you guys some photos of beautiful Singapore at night. I have always taken these city lights for granted, till I moved to Sweden and lived through some long, cold, dark winters. When I returned home, my husband and I went for a walk down Singapore River, through the central business district and were totally mesmerised by the vibrant night sky at home again.

This is Marina Bay Sands, an integrated resort which opened in June 2010. When we left Singapore, it was still under construction so we were really excited to see the completed MBS!


That dome shaped structure on the left is Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. It is a major performance arts venue and concerts, musicals and plays are happening there everyday.

That is Fullerton Hotel, a luxury 5 star hotel with a long history, complete with the skyscrapers of the central business district at the back.

Clashes of the prints

A few months back, ASOS held her Future Stylist 2012 competition. There were a few elimination rounds before the finals and the 16 competing fashion bloggers have to put together an outfit according to the theme at each elimination round.

I particularly love the second round, where everyone was challenged to mix or more specifically clash prints. I just like to share three of my favourite looks from this round as an inspiration to round up our Prints and Patterns theme!

My vampire inspiration

When we talk about Vampire movies, the first I thought about is Interview with a vampire. This movie was shown 1994 and the huge selling point was the two handsome leads: Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. This was the first vampire movie that left a deep impression in me. However, the character that left me deep impression was not the two hunks but young Kirsten Dunst.

She looks very beautiful, just like a doll in the show. I especially love her ringlet hair and those big innocent eyes.

My twilight inspiration - Alice Cullen

My all time favorite character in The Twilight Saga must be Alice Cullen. Ever optimistic and kind, she cares a lot for the loved ones around her. She is also the most fashionable of all the characters in the movie series. Her style has changed slightly from Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I think the styling team has done an amazing job on her outfits, hair and makeup every time.

My favorite look of Alice Cullen so far is the one in Breaking Dawn. I love pixie hair cut like this and I have been dreaming about cutting my hair so short for the longest time. Which is your favorite Alice Cullen look?

Beautiful Motherhood

To salute mothers, we need to salute motherhood. They carried us for 9 months and endured labour to bring us to this world.

While many women fear losing their figure after child birth (me being one of them), I really admire those who celebrate and acknowledge their process! Demi Moore started the trend of capturing this beautiful moment, and many more followed her footsteps. They celebrated beauty that is not that of a model's figure, but beauty of carrying their beloved child.

I am so glad maternity wear nowadays shows off that beautiful bumb unlike the frumpy dresses of the past. Though I love my mom's fashion, but this is one thing I am glad that made a change with time. 



I wish when I have the chance to experience motherhood, I'd capture all that beautiful moments and be proud of it. How would you celebrate your motherhood?

My beautiful mum

Happy mid-week! We need a tad more time for our mummy-inspired DIY projects so we are bringing forward our inspiration posts to this week! 


I like to share a few old photos of my mum in her younger days. The last time I saw these photos was over ten years ago. It was very sentimental revisiting these photos after so many years, with my mum sharing her stories and memories with me. The first set of photos are very precious because they are two of the few photos of her in her early teens. 

This is my mum celebrating her 21st birthday. I didn't think I look like my mum until now. My husband who saw these photos can't help agreeing with me too! 

My mum was quite a fashionista and she was always keeping tabs on the latest fashion trends. The photo on the right, you can find my mum and her best friend in the same maxi shirt dress. They were really close, like sisters, and would often exchange their clothes so that they always have new clothes to wear!

Finally, a photo of my mum on her wedding day in her beautiful wedding gown.

During my growing up days, my mum and I often get into arguments because we are just too stubborn to let each other have her way. As a result, we weren't really close. Still, my mum influenced me a lot. I think it was from her where I got my crafty genes! My mum's very good at sewing. When I was little, she would teach me how to draft patterns and sew pretty little dresses for my dolls on her old Singer sewing machine. I sure miss those days!

DIY capelets by Emilia

I can't explain how happy I was when Emilia from The Flying Carousel told me she had made herself two capelets from our off the shoulder capelet tutorial. It is amazing seeing her creativity in the fabric choices and I'm ridiculously smitten by her creations.

Punk rock inspiration

Just wanted to share some photos that inspires me when it comes to rock.

All that spikes, studs, leather, edgy black clothes and make up just makes me excited!

Do they inspire you too? Actually after this theme I think I am going to infuse more rock into my style!

Get studded!

Studs are prominent features in rock fashion. These amazing stuffs can bring up the edginess of an outfit or accessory and are really easy to fix on. Here are some fantastic ideas where studs can be added for that instant transformation.

When working with studs, do use a pair of small pliers to avoid hurting your fingers. Other than that, all you need is just some patience and have fun creating your own statement rock number!

Loving Disney!

Who doesn't love Disney? It was like a dream come true when my hubby brought me to Tokyo Disney during our honeymoon (Dec 2010).

So I am just going to share the amazing time I had in Disney with you guys.

FOOD

Singapore does not have much amusement parks (until recently Universal Studios), and I always have the impression that food in parks are expensive and horrible tasting. I was so wrong! I can still taste those tasty dishes by looking at these pictures! Though one can get tasty food anywhere, but eating them in Disneyland is just different! My favourite would have to be the turkey leg, buffet breakfast and ice cold Asahi draft beer!

FUN 

There is no doubt loads of fun in Disney! To add to double the fun, in Tokyo there are 2 theme parks. 1) Disneyland 2) Disneysea. Each bringing a different feel: Disneyland is more fantasy and family friendly; Disneysea is just like Venice, romantic and with adventures. Just walking around in the parks brings a huge smile on my face. Even my hubby (who is not a fan of Disney) felt totally rejuvenated.

HOTEL

Though Disney Hotel stay burnt a huge hole in our pocket, it was totally worth it! Firstly, being the guest of Disney Hotel you are entitled a slightly earlier entry to the park than the rest of the patrons! Secondly, the service was fabulous! See that cute ducky made from towl? Our very adorable room service staff made that for us after she made the room!

SHOPPING

Bringing back a part of all that magic was an important part of the experience! Wearing all those cute accessories also brings out the mood of the park. Just look at all that I had. I even got my hubby to join in the fun!
