The one thing I remembered most vividly from my mum's wardrobe - shoulder pads! When I was little, I loved trying on my mum's jackets and dresses with shoulder pads. I would be so amused by my broad shoulders that were totally disproportional to my small build. I looked like I was wearing some body armor and I felt like a big girl in these oversized clothes.
It's a pity that my mum didn't kept any of her clothes from her younger days. She probably never thought that I would love to wear her dresses now! What I have here is an old dress which I found in a quaint vintage shop in Iceland. The shoulder pads, details and cut caught my attention as they reminded me a lot of my mum's style.
Vintage dress from Nostalgia, Iceland
Faux pearl necklace from Cubus
Chain necklace from Gina Tricot
Studded earrings from Gina Tricot
Ring from Jinska
I am guessing from its design that this dress is from the 80s. Vintage stuffs are amazing because they carry with them their stories and a little history. The first owner, how is she like? Where and why did she buy this dress? How did she style it? Hey it would be so cool if any vintage experts here can enlighten me more about this dress!
It's Mother's Day tomorrow in Singapore. Here's wishing all mothers out there a fabulous, beautiful Mother's Day!

I remember my mom's shoulder pads too. Your dress looks good on you.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I also recall my mum's outfits with shoulder pads, I used to not like how it looked back then, but now I understand how useful they can be to us petite gals. This dress is such a beauty, love the low back detail and high neck.

You cannot imagine how fascinated I am. I don´t know why, but these pictures touched me...you look so covered, but feminine, young, but elegant...on the first photo mysterious. Great dress, but not everyone is able to wear it like a woman with real self-confidence. But you can!

wow what a stunning dress! I know exactly what you mean! I used to cringe at all the shoulder pad stuff my mum used to have. When she give me some of her old stuff I used to ask her to cut the shoulderpads out haha.

I used to think shoulder pads were awful. But really, it just depends on the placement and the size. I love a good shoulder pad for definition! And your accessories are beautiful!
